Dana L. DeVlieger is an associate in the New York office of Latham & Watkins.
Dana represents technology and media companies in complex litigation matters involving copyright and other intellectual property disputes. She has worked on copyright, trademark, and trade secret litigation matters in a variety of federal courts around the country and her experience includes brief writing, discovery disputes, offensive and defensive depositions, and case strategy and management. Dana also maintains an active pro bono practice and serves as a firm liaison to Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts.
Before joining Latham, Dana was a copyright and trademark litigation associate at another international law firm. Dana also worked as a judicial extern for Judge Virginia M. Kendall in the Northern District of Illinois. Dana received her JD, cum laude, from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, where she served as the managing articles editor for the Journal of Technology & Intellectual Property, worked as a research and teaching assistant for several of her professors, participated in Northwestern’s Supreme Court Clinic, and served as the music director and executive producer of Northwestern’s Wigmore Follies parody show.
Prior to law school, Dana was a professor and researcher in the field of Music Theory. She earned her PhD in Music Theory from the University of Minnesota and received the school’s Interdisciplinary Dissertation Fellowship and the Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship for her dissertation, “Promoting Creativity: How the Use of Music Analysis Affects Value Judgments in Copyright Litigation.” Dana also holds an MA from the Ohio State University, an MA from the University of Chicago, and a BA from the University of Notre Dame.
Dana has published her scholarship in several interdisciplinary journals and continues to present at both music and interdisciplinary conferences including the annual meetings of the American Musicological Society, the Society for Music Theory, the Art of Record Production, and the biannual conference on Race and Intellectual Property.
