Chris McAdam is an associate in the Chicago office of Latham & Watkins and in the real estate practice group.

Mr. McAdam advises REITs, private equity funds, and other real estate investors on matters relating to the acquisition, disposition, and financing of commercial real estate, including retail, office, hotel, multi-family, and mixed-use properties. Mr. McAdam also regularly advises clients on the negotiation of hotel management and franchise agreements and related issues and is a go-to resource for clients in the hospitality industry for his depth of experience in management and operational issues.

Prior to joining Latham, Mr. McAdam was in-house counsel for international hotel companies, as well as an associate at another international law firm.

Ms. McAdam’s practice includes:

  • Single asset and portfolio acquisitions and dispositions
  • Joint ventures and other preferred equity structured vehicles
  • Financings, including mortgage financings, mezzanine financings, seller financing
  • Management agreements, franchise agreements, and development agreements

Mr. McAdam also frequently advises clients on a pro-bono basis including the acquisition and financing of community resource centers and health clinics in the Chicago area. 

Mr. McAdam serves on the Board of Directors for the Legal Council for Health Justice in Chicago which provides pro-bono legal services to Chicago’s at-risk communities.

Mr. McAdam’s recent experience includes:

  • Disposition of luxury hotels and negotiation of long-term management agreements for major hotel brands in the United States, Aruba and Zurich, Switzerland
  • Disposition of multiple data center development sites and a joint venture for leading data center developer and operator
  • US$1 billion club-style joint venture for industrial developer/sponsor equity raise
  • Acquisition of a luxury resort for a private equity fund and negotiation of seller’s continued development obligations, loan assumption, hotel management agreement, and restaurant management agreement with boutique operators
  • Joint venture and acquisition of city center hotel and negotiation of hotel management agreement and acquisition financing
  • Hotel management agreement for assumption of management of ultra luxury resort in Miami, Florida*
  • Hotel management agreement and residential branding and association management agreement for luxury property in Phoenix, Arizona*
  • Residential branding and association management agreement for luxury condo hotel outside of Raleigh, North Carolina*
