Chidi Onyeche is an associate in the Project Development & Finance Practice of Latham & Watkins’ Washington, D.C. office and is a member of the firm’s Africa Practice.

Chidi Onyeche advises clients on the financing and development of a broad range of energy and infrastructure projects. 

Chidi represents sponsors, developers, commercial and investment banks, and investment funds on strategic transactions involving a range of assets, including:

  • Digital infrastructure, including fiber optic cable, transmission assets, and data centers
  • Liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities
  • Other traditional and emerging infrastructure sectors

Chidi leverages a sophisticated understanding of client needs to help borrowers and lenders strategically navigate commercial bank financings, private placements, and term loan B financings. She also guides sponsors and other stakeholders through the structuring, acquisition, development, and financing of energy infrastructure transactions.

Chidi’s experience includes advising:

  • Venture Global on the US$15.1 billion CP2 LNG project financing, the largest ever stand-alone project financing, along with other structural matters relating to the project; recognized as IJGlobal’s 2025 Oil & Gas Deal of the Year, North America
  • A project sponsor on its development financing for the construction of data centers in Texas
  • Delfin LNG on the ongoing development and financing of a proposed floating liquefaction and LNG export project 
  • The financing parties on financing the rollout by a joint venture between two major sponsors, of a wholesale out-of-region fiber to premises network across multiple US regions 
  • A project sponsor in respect of its construction financing of its wind and BESS project in California
  • Lenders to a project sponsor in respect of its construction financing of its solar and BESS project in Texas 
  • The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the OPEC Fund for International Development, the African Development Bank, and Arab Bank on a US$114 million financing package, which also involved financing from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), for the construction of the ACWA Power Kom Ombo solar power plant, the largest private solar plant in Egypt’s Aswan Province. This transaction was named African Energy Transition Deal of the Year by IJGlobal Awards 2023
  • The lenders on INEOS’s US$950 million financing and refinancing, comprising a US$750 million amendment and reinstatement of its existing borrowing base facility, and a new £155 million term loan and revolving credit facility
  • The export credit agencies and commercial bank lenders in the US$1.6 billion project financing for Northvolt’s development of two gigafactories for lithium - ion battery cell production in Europe
