Brian Hintze advises clients on project development and transactions across the energy and infrastructure sectors.

Mr. Hintze represents US and international energy and infrastructure clients, with a particular focus on upstream and midstream transactions and operations, LNG project development, and host government agreements.

Mr. Hintze draws on nearly two decades of experience in both private practice and in-house representing major energy companies. Immediately prior to joining Latham he served as Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary at a North American LNG export project developer. Prior to that he served as General Counsel and Secretary at an operating LNG company based internationally. 

He has substantial experience with matters involving upstream and midstream companies, commercial transactions, corporate structuring, operations, and major energy projects.

Mr. Hintze’s experience includes advising on:

  • Development of multiple multi-train natural gas liquefaction export projects, including projects in Mexico and Canada*
  • Several major backfill gas and liquefaction capacity monetization projects in Equatorial Guinea, including transportation and processing agreements, gas and LNG sale and purchase agreements, and tolling and lifting agreement*
  • Development and implementation of a global project structure plan with a hydrocarbon value chain and integrated operations and personnel spanning multiple international jurisdictions*
  • New country entry, operations, and country exits for multiple US-based oil and gas companies into several international jurisdictions in South America, Africa, and Oceania, including:
    • Negotiation of host government agreements
    • Joint venture agreements
    • Upstream exploration, development, and production agreements
    • Purchase and sale agreements*
  • Negotiation, implementation, and management of multiple long-term LNG offtake agreements*
  • FEED and EPC agreements on multiple major capital projects, including for the construction of LNG facilities*
