Boin Cheong is an associate in the Finance Department of the London and New York offices of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Structured Finance & Securitization Practice.

Ms. Cheong advises banks, asset managers and corporates on a wide range of public and private structured finance, securitization and asset-backed lending transactions, on matters relating to a full spectrum of asset classes, including European multi-country trade receivables, loans (CLOs and direct lending), SME loans, unsecured consumer loans, virtual credit card loans, residential mortgages, auto loans, auto leases, non-performing loans, microfinance loans, infrastructure loans, and project finance loans.

Ms. Cheong was previously seconded to the structured products group at BNP Paribas.

Prior to joining Latham in 2014, Ms. Cheong trained and qualified in the London office of an international firm. During this time, Ms. Cheong completed secondments at Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, and Moody’s Investors Service.

  • A European credit management specialist in relation to private securitization of UK non-performing loans
  • A European credit management specialist in establishing a joint venture platform with a third party investor of Nordic non-performing loans 
  • Various UK SME lending platforms in connection with their accreditation under the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS), Bounce Back Loan Scheme (BBLS) and Recovery Loan Scheme (RLS) following the Coronavirus-pandemic and the implementation of associated funding programs for CBILS, BBLS and RLS loans
  • The sponsor and manager of the first sustainability-linked infrastructure and project finance asset-backed securities transaction in Asia, awarded Structured Finance and Securitization Deal of the Year at the IFLR Asia-Pacific Awards 2022, Best Structured Finance Deal at GlobalCapital Asia Awards 2021, Best Structured Finance Issuer at the IFR Asia Awards 2021 and Outstanding Sustainable Bond award at Global Finance Sustainable Finance Awards 2021

Pro bono

  • Save the Children UK and Amnesty International in their efforts to improve the rights of refugee children and their families when seeking asylum in the UK which resulted in the introduction of the Refugees (Family Reunion) (No.2) Bill 2017-2019 in the UK Parliament. This project has been recognized with the inaugural Access to Justice Award at the UK Diversity Legal Awards 2018, and was Highly Commended in Legal Week’s 2018 British Legal Awards.
  • 28 Too Many a prominent anti-FGM research organization that provides tools and support to those working to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) primarily in Africa, in producing 28 country reports and a comparative guide summarizing the legislation, policies, and charges relating to FGM in 28 African countries. This project was awarded the 2018 Collaboration Award by the Thomson Reuters Foundation.
  • The International Rescue Committee (IRC), a global humanitarian organization, on an urgent, high-priority research and advisory project in connection with the 2016 EU-Turkey Summit and negotiations regarding the refugee crisis. This project was awarded the 2016 Collaboration Award by the Thomson Reuters Foundation.
