Austin Anderson is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Latham & Watkins.
He regularly advises clients in providing practical advice regarding their data privacy compliance obligations and often assists in directly developing and implementing internal data privacy compliance programs that align with data privacy laws and regulations across the country and internationally.
Austin represents a diverse range of clients on data privacy and consumer protection issues. He has particular experience advising companies on US state privacy compliance, including the California Consumer Privacy Act and other state privacy laws related to health and children’s privacy. He regularly counsels clients on a broad range of complex and emerging regulatory matters, including investigations by the Federal Trade Commission and by state attorney generals concerning their data privacy practices and other regulatory risks.
He also has extensive experience counseling clients on complex transaction matters, including negotiating with counterparties on data issues, and providing advice to clients regarding their privacy and data protection obligations.
Austin also frequently advises technology clients seeking to develop and/or deploy artificial intelligence (AI) models on regulatory and legislative developments impacting AI, such as California’s AI Transparency Act and Colorado’s Artificial Intelligence Act.
As a frequent author and speaker on data privacy and cybersecurity, Austin has previously spoken at the IAPP Global Privacy Summit and co-authored various blog posts on privacy law developments.
Austin’s pro bono practice is varied and includes corporate, privacy, and cybersecurity counseling for nonprofit organizations; special immigrant juvenile status applications; and assisting families impacted by the fires in the Los Angeles area navigate insurance claims and other disaster relief resources.
Austin has also completed two six-month secondments in Meta’s privacy counseling group, where he advised product and privacy counsel on developing solutions to address emerging US state privacy law and other global privacy obligations.
