Sam Newhouse, Doug Abernethy, and Ed Barnett Named Among UK's Top 20 M&A Lawyers

Three Latham & Watkins partners have been named among the top 20 M&A lawyers in the UK by the MergerLinks 2025 rankings, with Sam Newhouse securing the number one position. The rankings identify the leading M&A legal advisers based on deal value and transaction volume.

Sam Newhouse, Global Vice Chair of Latham’s M&A and Private Equity Practice, ranked first overall after advising on 13 deals collectively worth more than £54 billion. Sam's recent matters include advising Anglo American on the merger of equals with Teck, as well as the sale of NorthC to Antin Infrastructure Partners. 

Also appearing in the top 20 were Doug Abernethy, a partner in Latham's Corporate Department, and Ed Barnett, Managing Partner of Latham’s London office and partner in the firm’s Corporate Department.
