Leading Technology Disputes Partner Joins Latham & Watkins in London, Enhancing the Firm’s Market-Leading AI, Copyright, and Data Platform
Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce that Jason Raeburn has joined the firm’s London office as a partner in the Litigation & Trial Department, specializing in technology, life sciences, and artificial intelligence matters. Raeburn advises leading companies on complex international disputes at the intersection of intellectual property, privacy, communications, artificial intelligence, regulation, and commercial litigation. His arrival will enhance Latham’s ability to support clients as fast-developing AI regulation, escalating copyright disputes, and intensifying data enforcement create increasingly complex, cross-border legal challenges.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jason to Latham,” said Ed Barnett, Managing Partner of Latham’s London Office. “Technology is central to our global strategy and the UK and European markets are critical for the world’s leading technology companies, fast growth businesses, and entrepreneurs. Jason is an outstanding lawyer, and his arrival reflects our continued investment in top-tier talent in the innovation and data driven economy. His practice will create significant opportunities for collaboration across our corporate, regulatory, antitrust, and disputes teams, deepening our integrated offering for technology clients in London and globally.”
Raeburn regularly acts on high-value litigation and international arbitrations, advises clients on AI regulation, copyright and data litigation, trade secrets, cyber incidents, and cross-border enforcement, and counsels companies at the forefront of generative AI development and deployment. Alongside his private practice, he serves as a Deputy Master of the Business and Property Division of the High Court of England and Wales, and is the youngest individual ever appointed to the role.
“Jason’s practice sits squarely at the center of the issues our clients care most about,” added Sy Damle, Global Chair of Latham’s Copyright, Privacy & Communications Practice and Global Vice Chair of the firm’s Artificial Intelligence Practice. “The EU AI Act, a rising wave of copyright disputes over AI development, and intensifying regulatory enforcement are reshaping the legal landscape in the UK and Europe, and companies need advisers who can navigate litigation, regulation, and policy together. Jason has been at the forefront of these issues, advising some of the world’s most innovative companies, and his experience leading complex, multinational technology disputes will be instrumental as we continue to grow our UK and European practice.”
“The strength of our London litigation practice lies not just in its scale, but in the caliber of our lawyers and our ability to take on disputes at the cutting edge of the market,” said Olly Middleton, London Chair of Latham’s Litigation & Trial Department. “We have been deliberate and ambitious in building a team that combines exceptional disputes talent with deep sector expertise, and Jason is exactly the kind of lawyer who adds a new dimension to that offering. As the disputes landscape becomes more complex, particularly around technology, data, and AI, his arrival further reinforces our position as a destination practice for the most sophisticated, high-stakes litigation.”
“Jason is a phenomenal addition to Latham whose experience, spanning AI, copyright, data, and IP disputes, will be invaluable to clients as technology disputes become more complex, global, and commercially consequential,” said Kevin Wheeler, Global Chair of the IP Litigation Practice. “He combines deep technical understanding with the judgement required for high-stakes, cross-border disputes, and his arrival bolsters our leading technology disputes presence.”
Jason Raeburn also commented, “Some of the most consequential legal battles of the next decade will be fought at the intersection of technology, AI, and regulation, and Latham is exceptionally well placed to help clients navigate them. What ultimately drew me to the firm, though, was the people, the quality of the lawyers, their genuine enthusiasm for working together, and the ambition to build something exceptional in London. It’s a great opportunity to combine the work I’m most passionate about with a team I’m genuinely excited to be part of.”
Raeburn joins Latham from Paul Hastings. He received his LLB from the University of Bristol, his Legal Practice Course diploma from the College of Law, London, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property from the University of Oxford. He is qualified in England and Wales.
