Firm Lauded for Pro Bono Work in Chicago
At its Equal Access to Justice awards luncheon, the Legal Aid Society of Metropolitan Family Services (LAS) recognized Latham with its Steven R. Gilford Pro Bono Award. The award honors law firms, corporations, or lawyers who “display a strong commitment to the fundamental principles of equal protection and equal justice in the community through outstanding pro bono service.”
The Legal Aid Society praised Latham’s work on human trafficking cases in support of its Chicago-area clients. During the luncheon, LAS highlighted Latham’s assistance in one particular matter: a Chicago-based team helped recoup unpaid wages for a client who had fled danger in Mexico and started living with and working for a couple in the United States. Over the course of the matter, our lawyers investigated alleged labor trafficking incidents and pursued a civil claim against the adverse parties for unpaid wages.
“Collaborating with the Legal Aid Society of Metropolitan Family Services on this matter underscored the profound impact pro bono work can have on the lives of those in our communities and helped our client take an important step towards stability and safety,” said partner Nicholas Siciliano. “We are grateful for this award, and look forward to our continued partnership.”
