Partner Christos Malamataris, associates Axelle Aubry and Anna Escrigas Cañameras, and attorney support PROS coordinator Flavia Leme were honored for pro bono efforts in the EU.

Pro Publico, an organization dedicated to connecting law firms with nonprofits across the EU, collectively recognized Brussels partner Christos Malamataris, associates Axelle Aubry and Anna Escrigas Cañameras, and attorney support PROS coordinator Flavia Leme with its Leadership Award. This award recognizes “pro bono coordinators and champions whose leadership expands the culture, reach, and impact of pro bono practice.” Together, these colleagues oversee pro bono opportunities and matters in Brussels.

Over the past few years, the Brussels office has taken on a wide range of pro bono client through Pro Publico, including Transparency International, Civil Society Europe, the World Justice Project, Ashoka Belgium, CLTC, Asylex, the Artistic Freedom Initiative, ILGA-Europe, and Pro Publico itself. The award reflects the significant collective commitment to pro bono work in the Brussels office.

In addition, the Brussels office’s work with ILGA-Europe, the European regional organization of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex Association and advocacy group that focuses on human rights, was shortlisted for Pro Publico’s Impact Award. This award seeks to honor pro bono work that creates “concrete change in the world.” Our lawyers drafted a research memo on migration and residency options for an ILGA employee who had been forced to flee their home country because of the systemic persecution of LGBTQ+ people there. The team was led by partner Alfonso Lamadrid and included associates Florence Eicher, Ilaria Federici, and Lauren Murray, as well as law clerks Eva López De Tejada and Vincenzo Grimaldi.
