Latham & Watkins Advises Lenders on Successful €1.8 Billion Syndicated Facilities Agreement for NeXtWind

Banking & Private Credit team represents lenders in landmark onshore wind sector transaction again.

Latham & Watkins LLP has advised Deutsche Bank, ING and LBBW in the successful syndication of the €1.8 billion internationally syndicated debt financing agreement for leading European wind energy company NeXtWind. Originally sized at €1.4 billion, the financing package comprising various different facilities was upsized by €400 million on the back of strong global demand.

Leading banks and insurance companies from North America, Asia, and Europe have joined the financing structure in connection with the syndication. NeXtWind currently operates 37 wind park sites with 500 MW installed and holds a pipeline of more than 1.9 GW under permitting and construction. With the new financing, the capacity is set to exceed 3 GW by 2028, creating a new generation of integrated Clean Energy Hubs in Germany and, in time, across Europe.

With this transaction, NeXtWind is shifting the focus from individual project finance to a scalable investment platform that connects international capital, regulatory frameworks, and local infrastructure.

The Latham team was led by Frankfurt Banking & Private Credit partner Sibylle Münch, with counsel Ralph Dräger, and associates André Traute and Verena Birke.
