Firm Honored for Commitment to Families
For the fifth year in a row, the National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) has recognized Latham with a Beacon of Justice Award. This year’s award honors firms who helped sustained “equal justice for families & communities” through work done in 2024.
Latham was honored, in part, for its efforts to promote and support disability rights, including securing unanimous wins at the US Supreme Court in A.J.T. v. Osseo Area Schools (2025) and Perez v. Sturgis Public Schools (2023). In cases like A.J.T. and Perez, Latham is working to make it easier for students with disabilities to pursue remedies when facing discrimination in public schools.
“Alongside high-profile matters like A.J.T. and Perez, we are proud to collaborate with a number of nonprofit organizations, which are likewise seeking to advance disability rights and ensure equal treatment for all under the law,” said Laura Atkinson-Hope, Public Service Counsel, Director of Global Pro Bono at Latham & Watkins.
