Latham & Watkins Leads in Latin America M&A Deals Through H1 2025
Latham & Watkins was the top international legal advisor for M&A transactions in Latin America through the first half of 2025, according to Latinvex, a leading Latin America business publication focusing on the region’s legal, energy, and technology sectors. Financial data provider Dealogic also ranked Latham #1 for M&A in the first half of 2025.
Over that period Latham advised on 14 announced M&A deals in Latin America worth a combined US$32.5 billion, leading all firms in both deal count and value, including advising:
- Davivienda in its integration of Scotiabank’s operation in Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica, creating a global banking Multilatina in the largest M&A transaction in the Colombian banking industry in recent years.
- Telefónica in several strategic sales as part of Telefónica’s strategy to reduce exposure to the region and continue to operate sustainably to build value for its shareholders:
- Its US$1.245 billion agreement with TELECOM Argentina to sell all of its shares in the share capital of Telefónica Argentina.
- Its US$440 million sale of all its shares in Telefónica Móviles del Uruguay S.A. to Millicom Spain, S.L.
- The US$400 million agreement with Millicom for Millicom to acquire Telefónica’s controlling 67.5% equity stake in Colombia telecom service provider Coltel.
- Its agreement with Millicom Spain, S.L. for the sale of 100% of its stake in Telefónica Ecuador, in a transaction valued at US$380 million.
- Hyatt Hotels Corporation in its US$2.6 billion acquisition of Playa Hotels & Resorts N.V., a leading owner and operator of all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica.
- WWE in its acquisition of leading Mexican lucha libre promotion AAA in partnership with Mexico-based sports and entertainment holding company, Fillip.
- Softys in its completed acquisition of Ontex Group NV’s Brazilian business that develops, manufactures, commercializes, and distributes diapers and pants for the baby care market.
Earlier this year Latinvex ranked Latham as the top international law firm in Latin America for M&A in the region.
