Securities Docket has named Washington, D.C. Litigation & Trial Department Co-Chair Bill Baker and San Francisco partner Leslie Caldwell to its Enforcement 40 list recognizing “the 40 best and brightest securities enforcement defense attorneys in the industry.” Based on nominations, input from senior lawyers in the field, and considerable research, the publication’s list answers the question, “Who would you hire if you, your company or a family member was faced with an important SEC enforcement matter?”
Baker has now appeared on the Enforcement 40 list all three times it has been compiled. He handles a broad range of business regulatory and corporate governance matters, including representing corporations, auditing and other professional firms, investment banks, and other financial institutions in US Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulatory enforcement proceedings. In addition, Baker conducts internal investigations on behalf of management and boards of directors. He regularly counsels clients on SEC reporting, disclosure, compliance, and corporate governance requirements. Prior to joining Latham, Baker was Associate Director of the Division of Enforcement at the SEC, where he worked for 15 years.
Caldwell is one of the foremost white collar lawyers in country, having served for nearly three years in the Obama Administration as Assistant Attorney General for the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division where she oversaw more than 600 lawyers in 18 Sections, including Fraud, Money Laundering and Asset Recovery, Computer Crime and Intellectual Property, and the Office of International Affairs. At Latham, Caldwell serves as a trusted advisor to numerous Fortune 500 corporations — including leading technology companies — and their executives regarding sensitive matters such as crisis management, internal investigations, and government enforcement.
