Experienced Counsel To Join Latham & Watkins in Madrid
Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce that José María Alonso Monforte will join the firm’s Madrid office as a counsel in the Environment, Land and Resources Department. An experienced practitioner, Alonso joins the firm from the General State Attorney’s office before the European Court of Justice. Previously, he was Technical General Secretary of Spain´s Ministry of Economy and Business.

Over the years, Alonso has served in a number of public administration roles, including in the Criminal Law Department of the General State Attorney’s office; as State Attorney in the Superior Court of Justice in Madrid; as coordinator of public legal advice to the Administrator of Railway Infrastructure; as support to the International Arbitration Department and the Labor Law Department of the General State Attorney’s office; and as legal advisor to the Office of the Vice-president of the Government and State Attorney in the Ministry of the Presidency and Public Administration.

Alonso graduated in 2007 with a double degree in Law and Business Administration from Comillas Pontifical University, before passing the Civil Service examination to become a Spanish State Attorney and joining the General State Attorney’s office in Cantabria in 2011.
