November 18, 2019
Scholarship program recognizes students whose focus is on issues at the intersection of technology and the law.

Latham & Watkins, in collaboration with the New York University (NYU) Center for Cybersecurity, is pleased to announce that Cassi Carley, a second-year student at NYU School of Law, has received the Latham & Watkins Award in Technology and Law. The scholarship program seeks to cultivate a new generation of technology-savvy lawyers who are not only equipped to analyze the most complex technology law and policy issues, but also master the technical understandings of the fast-developing field.

In naming the 2019 scholar, Randy Milch, Co-Chair of the NYU Center for Cybersecurity, said: “Cassi is an exceptional student who came to NYU with a PhD in artificial intelligence and a deep interest in helping pioneer the law and policy that should surround the use of AI across our society. Cassi is already shedding light on the tough privacy, transparency, and bias issues that come with our public and private uses of AI."

Michèle Penzer, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in New York, said: “We congratulate Cassi on winning this scholarship and wish her continued success as she studies the exciting and critical area of cyber law. Our collaboration with the Center for Cybersecurity at NYU underscores Latham’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of innovation and technology in the legal field.”

Carley said: “I am honored to receive this scholarship and know it will further enhance my knowledge and skill-set in the growing areas of technology, cyber law, and policy. I look forward to continuing to explore and to advance this dynamic field with my peers, faculty, and industry experts.”
