Latham Named Co-D.C. Litigation Department of the Year

The National Law Journal has chosen Latham & Watkins as a co-winner of the D.C. Litigation Department of the Year award for “successfully navigating a high-stakes landscape with cases that featured both a breadth and depth of practice areas and some novel legal issues.” According to the publication, “competition was fierce” among top law firms and Latham rose to the top for being “trial-ready” and delivering a string of stellar results for clients in bet-the-company litigation.

In the profile article of the firm’s D.C. Litigation & Trial Department, the National Law Journal cited several victories that illustrate Latham as a litigation destination, including the successful defense of The Dow Chemical Co. in a $90 Billion reverse False Claims Act (FCA) lawsuit, a case which had the potential to set off countless new FCA claims. Douglas Greenburg, Co-Chair of Latham’s Washington, D.C. Litigation & Trial Department, noted that the win spotlights the firm’s “‘ability and willingness to litigate these difficult issues,’” while also demonstrating “Latham’s proficiency across a wide swath of law."

The NLJ also highlighted the firm’s precedent-setting work settling investigations by the Federal Trade Commission and the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office into VIZIO’s data collection policies. Jennifer Archie, the lead partner told the NLJ, “In the process, though, new standards for such policies were set, providing much-needed clarity to the smart TV and other industries.”

As part of the same National Law Journal contest, Latham was also named a D.C. Intellectual Property Litigation Department of the Year. This is the third consecutive time that the IP practice has won this prestigious award.
