Litigation & Trial Partner Receives 2018 Servant of Justice Award

The Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia recognized Litigation & Trial partner Abid Riaz Qureshi with the Servant of Justice Award at its 29th Annual Servant of Justice Awards Dinner. The award highlights individuals or organizations who have demonstrated faithful dedication and remarkable achievement in ensuring that all persons have equal and meaningful access to justice. As D.C.’s oldest and largest general civil legal services organization, Legal Aid works to make justice real for individuals living in poverty.

Qureshi served as Global Chair of Latham’s Pro Bono Committee for six years and recently completed his term in March 2018. Under his leadership, Latham increased its pro bono efforts to provide more than 200,000 hours of free legal services annually. Latham attorneys volunteer approximately 2,000 hours each year with Legal Aid. Currently, the firm is sponsoring an Equal Justice Works fellowship focused on the intersection between housing and domestic violence. Qureshi’s personal pro bono achievements include litigating a case that allowed a Muslim-American film production company to display its comedic advertisements on the NYC subway system, challenging conditions of prolonged solitary confinement for a client on Virginia’s death row, and securing a victory for foreign-education physical therapists previously barred from seeking licensure in the U.S. due to where they received their education.

Qureshi is an experienced trial lawyer who has served as lead counsel in numerous trials before federal and state courts throughout the country. He has represented clients in state and federal courts (at the district and appellate levels), national and international arbitral tribunals, and before state and federal regulators.
