Award recognizes Latham’s commitment to Washington, D.C.’s most vulnerable children and support of Children’s Law Center in 2015.

Latham & Watkins’ fundraising efforts for Children’s Law Center’s 2015 Champions for Children campaign has earned the firm top recognition. The award is given to firms whose total 2015 annual giving to Children’s Law Center exceeded that of their peer law firms of equal size.

The firm donated over US$120,000 in 2015 to Children’s Law Center, which provides free legal services for at-risk children who face abuse and neglect, need loving homes, or have special education and health needs.

Children’s Law Center, founded in 1996, helps D.C.’s most vulnerable children overcome challenges that can get in the way of their most basic needs: a quality education, good health, and a permanent, loving home. The organization reaches 1 out of every 8 children in D.C.’s poorest neighborhoods – more than 5,000 children and families each year.

“We are thrilled to present Latham with the Champions for Children award,” said Judith Sandalow, Executive Director of Children’s Law Center.

“Latham never wavers in its commitment to making a difference in the D.C. community. They’re a firm we turn to with our toughest, most complex cases – and they offer steadfast support for our clients. Latham attorneys have been leaders on Children’s Law Center's governing and advisory board for years – and this year, those leaders led Latham to being our most generous supporter in the legal community,” Sandalow said.

The campaign is spearheaded by the Children’s Law Center Advisory Board, which is comprised of over 30 rising leaders at law firms and corporations within D.C. including Latham associate Elizabeth Richards. These leaders advance the well-being of children and gain valuable business development experience by promoting pro bono service and advocating for greater giving within their firms to support children. Latham partner Peter Winik also provides strategic leadership to Children's Law Center, serving on its board of directors.
