Two Latham & Watkins litigation partners have been recognized as “Top Women Lawyers” in California for 2012 by the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journals, which compiles an annual list “to recognize excellent lawyering and leadership skills among women attorneys.” The partners include Karen Silverman and Margaret Tough in San Francisco.

Silverman, San Francisco’s managing partner and a member of the firm’s Global Antitrust and Competition Practice, was cited by the Daily Journal as an “antitrust maven” noted for her broad range of expertise in competition disputes and merger control matters. She also was recognized for a major victory for Lundbeck Inc., in which Latham defeated the US Federal Trade Commission’s accusations that the company monopolized the market for drugs that treat a rare pediatric heart disorder.

Tough, a litigation partner in the firm’s White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice, was acknowledged for her trial experience. She was further cited for her current representation of Pacific Gas & Electric Co. in connection with approximately 100 lawsuits and parallel government and regulatory investigations that resulted from a September 2010 natural gas explosion in a residential area of San Bruno. Tough also played a prominent role with a team of Latham attorneys in a trial that won a defense verdict for Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. in November 2010.
