Maximizing Our Impact

Providing free legal services to vulnerable individuals and the nonprofits that serve them is a hallmark of life at Latham, and an integral part of the firm’s culture. By taking on a variety of pro bono matters in nearly every area of public interest law, our lawyers aim to meet critical legal needs in our communities. We complement these pro bono contributions with non-legal volunteerism and fundraising through Latham’s Community Engagement Program.

One example is our Los Angeles office’s “Summer of Service,” a month-long series of coordinated pro bono clinics and volunteer events in the local community, including training to help individuals facing bankruptcy and low-income families pursuing adoption in California. Another: in Asia, our lawyers and business service professionals team up each year in a walkathon fundraiser for the benefit of two local pro bono partners: the Law Society of Singapore and Pro Bono SG.

In Houston, we have built meaningful relationships with local organizations dedicated to supporting the people who keep Houston safe since opening our office there in 2010. Latham represents the Houston Police Foundation, a nonprofit that aids the Houston Police Department by funding equipment, training facilities, and programs that further connections between officers and the communities they serve. Our lawyers are advising the Foundation on governance matters and to secure financing for a new US$10.5 million firearms training center at the Houston Police Academy Campus.

The office also assists local first responders through its participation in the Houston Fire Department’s Operation Stocking Stuffer. As one of the largest annual toy drives in the US, this program provides toys for more than 20,000 children each year. Latham has been involved since the launch of Operation Stocking Stuffer in 2015, donating more than 18,000 toys over the last decade.
