Chris Bennett is a partner in the Houston office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm's Corporate Department.

Mr. Bennett focuses his practice on M&A and joint venture transactions in the energy industry, with an emphasis on upstream and midstream transactions. His experience includes:

  • Acquisitions and divestitures of onshore and offshore oil and gas assets and businesses
  • Joint ventures and other strategic combinations in connection with the development of upstream and midstream oil and gas assets
  • Drafting and negotiating development agreements, gathering agreements, joint operating agreements, processing agreements, services agreements, and other complex commercial contracts crucial to the energy industry

  • EPIC Midstream, an Ares portfolio company, in various corporate transactions and equity financings in connection with its development of crude oil and NGL pipelines from the Delaware basin to Corpus Christi, Texas
  • An affiliate of Hess Corporation in the sale of its Bakken shale region produced water assets to Hess Infrastructure Partners LP, a joint venture between Hess and Global Infrastructure Partners, for US$225 million
  • Kayne Anderson Acquisition Corp. in a joint venture with Apache Corporation to create Altus Midstream Company and the negotiation of long-term gathering and processing agreements in connection therewith
  • An independent oil and gas company in connection with certain gas, oil, and produced water dedication agreements in the DJ basin
  • Arclight Capital Partners in connection with its acquisition of all of the equity interests in First ECA Holdings, an entity owning certain gas gathering assets in the Marcellus shale
  • Access Midstream in its acquisition of substantially all of the gas compression assets from an affiliate of Chesapeake Midstream Operating
  • Elm Ridge Exploration Company in connection with the sale of 100% of its wholly owned subsidiary owning certain gas gathering assets in Colorado
  • Hess Corporation in connection with its US$5.3 billion joint venture of its North Dakota midstream assets (oil and gas gathering assets, storage assets, a processing plant, and a crude terminal) with Global Infrastructure Partners and the negotiation of long-term gathering and processing agreements in connection therewith
