Gearoid Murphy is an associate in the Finance Department of the London office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Structured Finance and Securitization Practice.

Mr. Murphy’s work focuses on structured finance and securitization, with a particular emphasis on matters relating to asset-backed securities backed by a wide variety of assets, including multi-country trade receivables, SME loans, unsecured consumer loans, auto loans, auto leases, non-performing loans, and residential and commercial mortgages. Mr Murphy also advises a number of leading banks and direct lending funds on their fund financing and leverage, including asset backed and capital call facilities.

Prior to joining Latham in 2020, Mr. Murphy trained and qualified in a leading Irish law firm.  During this time, Mr. Murphy worked in the finance and capital markets practice in the firm's Dublin and New York office. 

Mr. Murphy’s experience includes advising:

  • A specialty credit investment adviser on the securitisation of a portfolio of credit assets following its successful public take-over of a UK investment trust
  • Lowell on its acquisition of Hoist Finance UK (including its entire unsecured non-performing loan portfolio) and the private securitisation of the target's entire portfolio of NPLs
  • Lowell on their first rated securitisation of UK consumer NPLs
  • A European credit management specialist in establishing a joint venture platform with a third party investor of Nordic non-performing loans
  • A number of international banks on the financings of Middle Market loans for leading direct lending funds
  • A US bank on the securitisation of US$2 billion portfolio of auto-loan receivables*
  • A Polish leasing company on the securitisation of a portfolio of leasing receivables using an Irish issuer*
  • A US manager on the establishment of a US$200 million MTN programme using an Irish SPV*
  • A US manager on the establishment of their flagship European senior direct lending fund in a master-feeder structure*
