Leading Group of Real Estate Private Equity Partners Joins Latham & Watkins in Chicago

Buday, Marrs and Axelrod add further heft to Latham’s global real estate capabilities.

Chicago… Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Robert T. Buday, Nathaniel M. Marrs and Gary E. Axelrod have joined the firm’s Chicago office as partners in the Finance Department. The partners have more than 44 years of experience, collectively, with expertise in real estate private equity, commercial real estate, REITs and private equity fund formation matters, with a particular focus on the hospitality, gaming and leisure sectors.

The group of partners has advised on a number of high profile commercial real estate private equity transactions, infrastructure projects, restructurings and refinancings, REITs and fund formation matters. The partners serve a broad range of clients including: private equity funds; financial institutions, such as banks, pension funds, institutional investors and insurance companies; operating companies; REITs; and developers.

The partners join Latham & Watkins from Kirkland & Ellis. Buday received his JD from Indiana University School of Law in 1991, where he was an associate editor of the Law Review. He graduated from Indiana University with a BS in Finance in 1988. Marrs received his JD from the University of Michigan Law School in 1996. He received an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business in 2004, and an AB, summa cum laude, from the University of Michigan in 1993, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Axelrod received his JD, magna cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1997 and a BS, with high honors, from the University of Illinois in 1994.
