Firm Wins Equity and Loan Deals of the Year at IFLR Americas Awards 2019

Latham recognized for steering Spotify’s historic direct listing and Carlyle and GIC’s blockbuster acquisition of AkzoNobel’s Specialty Chemicals business, while New York associate Brittany Ruiz named a Rising Star.

Latham & Watkins was pleased to win both Equity and Loan Deals of the Year at International Financial Law Review’s (IFLR) Americas Awards 2019. The annual awards recognize “the most legally innovative transactions closed in the continent during 2018, and the teams and individuals that worked on them.”

 The recognized deals and individuals included:

  • Equity Deal of the YearSpotify Direct Listing – Latham represented Spotify, the world’s largest global music streaming subscription service, in its groundbreaking direct listing on the New York Stock Exchange.
  • Brittany Ruiz, an associate in the New York office and member of the Latham team that advised Spotify, was named a Rising Star for her contributions to the novel deal.
  • Loans Deal of the Year – The Carlyle Group and GIC’s Acquisition of AkzoNobel’s Specialty Chemicals Business – Latham advised The Carlyle Group on both the acquisition and financing of Carlyle and GIC Private Limited’s €11.2 billion (US$12.6 billion) acquisition of AkzoNobel’s Specialty Chemicals business, recently named Nouryon. The blockbuster deal involved more than €6.5 million of funded debt, consisting of €5.115 million of secured bank loans and a €1.385 million bond offering.
