Hong Kong … Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce that litigation partner Catherine E. Palmer has relocated to the firm’s Hong Kong office.
Palmer represents multinationals and global financial institutions involved in criminal or regulatory investigations throughout the world, with an emphasis on global corruption, bribery and sanctions investigations and global antitrust cartel investigations. One of the foremost litigators in the field with more than 25 years of experience, Palmer has interacted with regulators across the globe on behalf of clients, including in the US, the EU, the UK, India, Singapore, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea and Australia.
Prior to joining Latham & Watkins, Palmer served in the US Department of Justice from 1985–1994, and 1996–1998, where she held many senior positions, including: Special Assistant to the US Attorney General; and Chief of the Criminal Division; and Assistant United States Attorney in the US Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of New York. Over the years, she has worked closely with government and law enforcement officials in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand to direct and coordinate complex international investigations. She has received numerous awards, including the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service and several Department of Justice Special Achievement Awards, as well as numerous US and international law enforcement awards.
Simon Powell, Office Managing Partner of the firm’s Hong Kong office, commented: “Cathy is a terrific addition to the team. She is a fearless litigator whose national prominence as a trial lawyer in the US and formidable knowledge of the Asia Pacific region make her a uniquely talented counselor. Cathy’s arrival adds further heft to our litigation practice in the region and she will play a major role in our growth plans.”
“Cathy is among a very small group of internationally recognized, highly experienced trial lawyers in the field. She is a tenacious and driven litigator whose instinct and intellect confirm her status as an uncommonly gifted advocate. In today’s more complex business environment, with a rising number of multi-country agency enforcement actions and parallel proceedings, having Cathy’s experience in the region will be of great value to our Asia practice and our clients,” added Bryant Edwards, Chair of Latham & Watkins’ Asia practice.
“I am excited to join the talented team in Hong Kong and more broadly the Asia region. Asia is an important part of our global litigation and White Collar and Investigations capability and I look forward to contributing to the growth of the practice,” said Palmer.
Palmer was based in the firm’s New York office from 1998–2013.
