Dr. Yasmina Vaziri is an associate in the London office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Department. She has a broad practice within Complex Commercial Litigation, with a particular focus on contentious regulatory matters.

Ms. Vaziri has built her practice upon a broad range of complex and reputationally significant commercial disputes as well as contentious regulatory matters, often with a multi-jurisdictional element. She also has considerable experience in claims arising out of insolvency scenarios, as well as finance litigation.

Ms. Vaziri has advised and represented clients in disputes at all stages of the business life cycle, from emerging companies to established global market leaders, across a range of industry sectors including technology, telecommunications and social media, aviation, shipping, financial services, and consumer goods. Ms. Vaziri also regularly advises on public law issues, conducting judicial reviews for applicants against a range of regulatory and governmental bodies.

Prior to joining Latham, Ms. Vaziri completed her doctorate in predictive analytics and big data algorithms, through which she gained deep subject matter expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence. She leverages her unique background in advising on contentious data protection and information law matters.

Ms. Vaziri’s experience includes:

  • Advising a leading American social networking provider in connection with regulatory inquiries
  • Advising an insurance company on data protection related matters arising out of a dispute around a complex financial product
  • Advising on strategy in pre-action negotiations on behalf of a prominent American multinational technology company in a threatened IP dispute under a license agreement.
  • Acting as lead advisor to a cosmetics company in an ICC arbitration against a supplier
  • Acting for a shipping company in English Court proceedings over the award of freight contracts as part of Brexit contingency planning
  • Advising a major private vehicle hire company on its successful application for judicial review in the High Court against a decision by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs to impose significant VAT liability on the company
  • Advising a Middle Eastern bank in respect of an alleged breach of contract and claims in fraud and deceit
  • Advising the liquidators of a BVI vehicle on a dispute arising out of a failed mining JV and related complex fraud
  • Advising the insolvency administrator of a global financial services firm in claims relating to a negligent portfolio liquidation
