Rafael Martínez-Echevarría is a corporate associate in Latham & Watkins’ Madrid office. Mr. Martínez-Echevarría specializes in investor and company representation in capital markets transactions.

Mr. Martínez-Echevarría advises both Spanish and international companies on corporate and capital markets law. He assists clients in all legal matters related to their business in Spain such as IPOs, takeovers, venture capital transactions, mergers and acquisitions, special situations, and distressed investments.

Prior to joining Latham, Mr. Martínez-Echevarría worked as legal counsel for the bank industry and practiced at a top tier international firm.

Mr. Martínez-Echevarría’s experience includes advising:

  • Partners Group in the creation of a joint venture with Dunas Capital to invest in real estate assets in Spain
  • Ecoener, a wind, hydro, and photovoltaic energy operator, on its IPO for a capitalization of c. €350 million 
  • Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME) in the all-cash voluntary friendly tender offer by SIX Group, the Swiss financial markets infrastructure operator, for €2.8 billion
  • Square in the acquisition of Verse, a Spanish peer-to-peer payments app
  • Credit Suisse in the acquisition of a stake in Allfunds Bank 
  • A US-based payment entity in the acquisition of a majority stake in a Spanish electronic money company  
  • The Carlyle Group on the mandatory public offering launched over 100% of the shares of Bodegas Bilbaínas, S.A., a leading winery located in La Rioja 
  • KKR in the takeover and taking private of Telepizza Group, S.A.
  • Carrefour on the sale of a majority stake of Market Pay to AnaCap
