Esam Al-Shareffi is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Latham & Watkins.

Dr. Al-Shareffi’s practice focuses on patent litigation, particularly in the life sciences and biotechnology industries. He is currently involved in antibody biosimilar matters.

As a summer associate, he contributed to ongoing patent litigation involving a medical device and drafted research memoranda regarding Patent Trial and Appeal Board procedures.

Prior to law school, Dr. Al-Shareffi completed a combined MD/PhD program. His dissertation work for his doctorate in Biochemistry involved developing analytical methods for interrogating carbohydrate analogs. As a result of Dr. Al-Shareffi’s work, he has co-authored several scientific articles.
