London Partner Awarded MBE in 2019 New Year’s Honours List
Entertainment, Sports & Media partner Libby Savill has received an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in the 2019 New Year’s Honours List for her services to film and television. The annual list recognizes the “achievements and service of extraordinary people across the United Kingdom.”
Savill has held a number of prominent positions within the media and entertainment sectors, sitting on the boards of Film London and of Women in Film & Television UK and most recently serving as Deputy Chair of the British Film Institute (BFI). She has been invited to participate in a number of other industry bodies, including the current BFI Commission on UK Independent Film, the UK government-initiated Film Policy Review, and Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs’ experts panel on the film sector tax relief regime. Savill has also contributed to film education, most notably devising and running a business course for producers at the EU-funded Film Business School and at the National Film and Television School in the UK.
“Libby’s years as a leading media and entertainment practitioner have augmented her ability to contribute to the public institutions that underpin the UK film and television sectors, and her holistic knowledge of these sectors has in turn contributed to her success as a lawyer,” said Jay Sadanandan, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in London. “We congratulate her on this fantastic and well-deserved honor.”
MBEs represent a position in the British order of chivalry and reward recipients’ contributions to the arts and sciences, public service outside the civil service, and efforts with charitable and welfare organizations. The awards are presented by, or in the name of, the Queen during Investitures at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.
