Latham & Watkins project finance practice was once again recognized by Project Finance International (PFI) in the magazine’s 2012 “Deal of the Year” Awards. Latham advised on the Sabine Pass Liquefaction project which was named “Americas Deal of the Year” by PFI. Latham represented the co-sponsor, Blackstone, in the “first LNG export terminal in the continental United States.” PFI noted: “[T]he project changed the international dynamics of LNG and will put the US on the map as an exporter of LNG.” Latham represented Panda Temple Power in the Panda Temple Power Deal recognized by PFI for “setting the standard for what was to become the big trend in power project finance in 2012: the A/B structure.” In naming the deal “Americas Power Deal of the Year,” PFI noted: “[T]he deal was innovative based on hedges that reduced merchant risk.” Latham & Watkins advised the lenders in the $34 billion Ichthys LNG project which PFI named the “Asia-Pacific Deal of the Year.” PFI noted the Ichthys LNG project is “the largest project in the world this year and the largest in Australia’s history.” Latham also provided counsel on the $8.5 billion APLNG project which was named “Asia-Pacific Oil & Gas Deal of the Year.” Latham represented the lenders in the “world’s first coal seam gas LNG scheme to be project financed” and “one of the largest project finance transactions in Australia and Asia-Pacific in 2012.”
