Paul Hunt is a partner in the Finance Department of Latham & Watkins’ Washington, D.C. office. His practice is focused on energy-related or other commodities transactions and the development and project financing of infrastructure projects, including:

  • Wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, and other renewable or alternative energy projects

  • Fossil fuel-fired, cogeneration, and independent power projects

  • IGCC, carbon capture, and gasification projects

  • Electric transmission lines

  • Water projects

  • Transportation projects

  • Mining projects

In addition, Mr. Hunt works extensively on acquisitions, divestitures, and private equity investments in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He also advises clients on governmental stimulus measures in the energy sector, including through the United States Department of Energy. His clients include energy companies, private developers, lenders, investors, offtakers, governments, and their national utilities in connection with all phases of the development, financing, and acquisition of US and international infrastructure projects. 

Mr. Hunt’s activities include formulating competitive bidding solicitations, structuring projects, negotiating project agreements and loan documentation, and negotiating investment documentation and purchase and sale agreements.

Mr. Hunt is consistently recognized by Chambers Global, Chambers USA, and The Legal 500 US as a top Projects lawyer. He is also recommended by The Legal 500 US in the areas of renewable energy and transactional energy and for Projects: Renewables & Alternative Energy Nationwide by Chambers USA 2019.

Prior to joining Latham, Mr. Hunt served as judicial clerk to Judge Richard L. Williams of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
