Global Pro Bono Survey

About the Survey

This Survey of Pro Bono Practices and Opportunities in 84 Jurisdictions is an initiative of the Pro Bono Institute and Latham & Watkins. Its aim is to make information about global pro bono legal services more accessible. The survey, first carried out in 2005, updated in 2015 and again for 2019, is part of an ongoing effort to promote and stimulate the growth of pro bono representation globally. It serves as an introductory resource for those seeking to engage or learn more about the culture and provision of pro bono in their own country or other countries.

An Evolving Pro Bono Landscape

While we have worked, to the extent possible, with local counsel and NGOs to provide information that is both current and accurate, we note that the situation in many of the jurisdictions is fluid, and that errors and omissions are unavoidable. We consider the survey to be a work in progress and welcome your feedback and comments to help us improve future versions. We owe a debt of gratitude to Eve Runyon and Reena Glazer of the Pro Bono Institute, with whom we have collaborated on this project.

Notice: We appreciate your interest in Latham & Watkins. If your inquiry relates to a legal matter and you are not already a current client of the firm, please do not transmit any confidential information to us. Before taking on a representation, we must determine whether we are in a position to assist you and agree on the terms and conditions of engagement with you. Until we have completed such steps, we will not be deemed to have a lawyer-client relationship with you, and will have no duty to keep confidential the information we receive from you. Thank you for your understanding.
