Enabling Technology for the Greater Good

Drawing on their commercial and regulatory experience, our lawyers provide cutting edge advice to help organizations navigate an increasingly complex data privacy landscape along with other corporate support for organizations using technology to empower their communities.

Across Europe, our Data & Technology Transactions team regularly advises nonprofits on all aspects of data protection and privacy. In the UK, we recently worked with A Leg to Stand On, a nonprofit providing prosthetic limbs, orthotic braces, and wheelchairs to children with disabilities in developing countries. Our lawyers drafted data protection best practice guidelines for marketing activities and reviewed the organization’s privacy policy in relation to the UK General Data Protection Regulation requirements. In Germany, we advised Mentor, a nonprofit association of volunteers that helps improve the reading and comprehension skills of school children in Germany, on data protection in connection with their websites. Our work also extends to Asia, where lawyers in Hong Kong advised CantoGather Education Limited, an organization focused on language and intercultural education in local schools, on matters related to data protection and privacy advice.

"Through resources like the Global Pro Bono Guide, legal teams around the world are able to navigate pro bono frameworks and the use of evolving technology across jurisdictions, expanding access to pro bono globally."

We also support technology nonprofits and social enterprises. In Dubai, our lawyers advised CONCAT on incorporation-related matters so they could take on global clients. CONCAT is a web development agency that aims to provide employment for communities in the Middle East. We additionally provided strategic advice regarding license and technical support service agreements for Simprints, a nonprofit that expands access to technology in developing countries.

In the 2026 edition of the Global Pro Bono Guide, a global initiative of the Pro Bono Institute, the Thomson Reuters Foundation, and Latham, we incorporated research on noteworthy examples of how artificial intelligence and other innovative technologies are being used to enable access to or are integrated into pro bono matters. The survey, first carried out in 2005, is part of an ongoing effort to promote the growth of pro bono representation and increase access to justice globally by informing the management and development of law firms and in-house legal teams around the world.
