Peter Viola is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Latham & Watkins.

Prior to joining Latham, Mr. Viola earned his JD from Georgetown University Law Center, magna cum laude. While in law school, he served as a law clerk at the US Department of Justice Environment and Natural Resources Division and as a law clerk at Environmental Law Institute. He worked on matters through Georgetown’s environmental law clinic, the Institute for Public Representation, including several administrative agency challenges. He also served as a board member of the student Environmental Law Society and as an editor on the Georgetown Environmental Law Journal.

Before law school, Mr. Viola spent nearly five years on Capitol Hill serving as a legislative aide to Representative Jackie Speier of California. He made recommendations for Rep. Speier on national energy and environmental policies and on issues affecting state and local water policy, fisheries, coastal conservation, climate change, and clean energy technology. He staffed Rep. Speier on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, and managed her environmental legislative initiatives.

Mr. Viola received his undergraduate degree in Literary Studies with minors in French and Italian from Middlebury College, summa cum laude. As an undergraduate, he was an active member of the student climate campaign and its committee to make the college carbon-neutral.
