Nathan Saper focuses on securities and complex business litigation, defense against governmental criminal, civil, and regulatory actions, and internal investigations.

Mr. Saper litigates in federal and state courts throughout the country, and regularly represents clients facing investigations or charges by the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other federal and state agencies. In addition to representing clients in active litigation against the government or private parties, Mr. Saper has extensive experience conducting internal investigations across a wide range of industries and geographies, with particular expertise in the Asia-Pacific region, having previously spent time based in Hong Kong leading internal investigations region-wide.

Mr. Saper received his JD from the Northwestern University School of Law. Before attending law school, Mr. Saper obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and International Relations from the University of Southern California, and his Master of Arts in International Relations from Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. 

Mr. Saper has experience across a broad range of civil, criminal, and regulatory matters, including:

  • Defending companies and individuals against actions pursued by the Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission, Food and Drug Administration, and other federal and state agencies
  • Defending companies and their officers and directors against securities class actions and related claims
  • Conducting internal investigations in a wide range of areas, including alleged violations of anti-corruption and anti-money laundering laws
  • Pursuing affirmative claims on behalf of strategic and financial buyers against sellers that sold companies without disclosing prior wrongdoing
  • Defending a food company against a trade secret claim seeking billions of dollars in damages
  • Defending an operator of private detention facilities against a securities class action seeking over a billion dollars in damages
  • Defending a DOJ indictment and SEC complaint against a former executive of a public company for alleged securities and accounting fraud
  • Representing an executive facing federal indictment for alleged bribery of a local politician
  • Defending a provider of electronic health records software against claims that it violated the False Claims Act and Anti-Kickback Statute
  • Defending a technology company against allegations of securities fraud in connection with the bankruptcy of a former supplier
  • Defending a natural gas marketing company against suits before the Missouri Public Service Commission and Missouri federal court seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in penalties associated with spiking natural gas prices
  • Defending a False Claims Act case alleging that a major health system overbilled for breast surgery procedures
  • Defending a hospital against claims that it tortiously interfered with the practice of a doctor terminated from its medical staff
