Michael Lacovara advises clients on a range of M&A-related competition matters, including transaction negotiations, issues arising during the merger clearance process, and pursuing consensual or litigated remedies. He also leads a range of strategic antitrust and commercial litigations, drawing on more than 30 years of experience as a senior partner at global law firms in New York and London, as a senior investment banker, and as the CEO of publicly traded and private corporations.

Mr. Lacovara regularly represents financial sponsors and operating companies in the competition aspects of strategic acquisitions and dispositions, as well as merger and non-merger related antitrust and commercial litigations.

He brings clients a uniquely informed perspective on the commercial and strategic aspects of transactions and litigation in light of long experience as an investment banker and senior corporate executive.

Mr. Lacovara leads teams that handle complex, cross-border competition matters around the globe.   • A national Central Bank to develop its merger clearance and competition-related regulatory, and enforcement regime for the financial services sector
  • Multiple fintech consortia, sponsors, and investors in connection with investments, governance, and competition-related operating issues
  • US and European banks, asset managers, and other financial market participants in connection with ongoing competition-related counseling, as well as pending or prospective enforcement actions in respect of alleged anticompetitive behavior across a number of equities, fixed income, and other financial product markets

  • A major global automobile manufacturer in multi-district antitrust litigation alleging participation in a broad-ranging conspiracy to suppress innovation in technological development of cars and light duty trucks

  • A leading Middle Eastern bank in connection with a claim for US$40 billion in damages asserted by the State of Qatar in connection with allegedly fraudulent forex-related activity
  • A global engineering and aviation conglomerate in an ICC arbitration related to the provision of commercial jet engine components
  • A national Asian airline in litigation against a global aircraft manufacturer
