Kavan Bakhda is an associate in the London office of Latham & Watkins. Mr. Bakhda has a broad practice area having advised on a number of cross-border arbitration and litigation matters concerning in particular disputes relating to commodities, financial services and enforcement of security in the event of default by a borrower. Mr. Bakhda advises on civil fraud claims, has carried out asset-tracing exercises for clients as well as making applications to the High Court for injunctive relief.

Mr. Bakhda qualified as a solicitor at Watson Farley & Williams in September 2012 having trained with the firm in the asset finance, corporate, competition and dispute resolution departments. Since qualifying as a solicitor specializing in dispute resolution, Mr. Bakhda has advised on disputes that have been heard in the High Court, and he has experience of various institutional and ad hoc arbitrations.

Mr. Bakhda's recent experience includes: 

  • Obtaining a freezing injunction for a high net worth individual against a judgment creditor
  • Conducting an asset tracing exercise for a large Eastern European bank
  • Acting for a high profile art dealer in relation to a dispute over a joint venture agreement
  • Representing an ultra-high net worth individual recover assets purchased using his funds, which had been misappropriated
  • Assisting a leading Premiership football club with an investigation being conducted into its business affairs
  • Providing crisis management advice to an Eastern European bank during the course of the restructuring of its debt
  • Advising clients on the various disputes that have arisen out of the highly publicized fraud alleged to have occurred in Qingdao, China*
  • Advising a transnational shipping group on a claim against its client for breach of a contract relating to the development of an FPSO. Advice was also provided on making an application for an anti-suit injunction concerning proceedings brought in Bermuda*
  • Advising a trading house on its successful application for a freezing injunction and also its subsequent application for summary judgment*
  • Advising a consumer electronics firm in relation to a contractual claim brought against it for the alleged supply of defective equipment*
  • Advising on an LMAA arbitration concerning the sale and leaseback of a vessel under a MOA and charter*
  • Advising a high net worth individual on a dispute with a ship broker concerning the delivery of a series of super-yachts*
  • Advising an investor on a claim for breach of contract against a Far-Eastern steel cutting firm*
  • Advising a high net worth individual on a dispute with a firm in which he was a shareholder concerning the sale of various assets and the valuation of methodology ascribed to those assets*
