Gaston Soler is an associate in Latham & Watkins' Tax Controversy Practice in the firm's Washington, D.C. office.

Mr. Soler represents taxpayers in all stages of federal tax controversies, including exam, appeals, and litigation in the US Tax Court and the US Court of Federal Claims. He also advises clients on tax compliance matters, tax investigations, and the interpretation of tax regulations.

Mr. Soler has experience across a wide variety of industries, and has represented clients in the medical device, software, oil and gas, financial institution, natural resources, and non-profit spaces. Mr. Soler began his career as a transactional tax attorney, advising clients on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, restructurings, public offerings of debt and equity securities, secondary transactions, and financing transactions. He also has considerable experience advising investment funds on structuring, formation, and operation. Mr. Soler leverages his experience in structuring and negotiating transactions to effectively represent clients in high-stakes tax matters involving economic substance, debt-equity, valuation, employment tax, and penalty issues.

Mr. Soler earned his JD from Duke University School of Law. Before his legal career, Mr. Soler was an associate in the assurance practice of an international accounting firm.
