Chidi Onyeche is an associate in the Project Development & Finance Practice of Latham & Watkins' London office and is a member of the firm’s Africa Practice.

Ms. Onyeche advises financial institutions, multilateral organizations, governments, and project sponsors on a wide range of financing and project financing transactions.

Ms. Onyeche’s experience includes advising:

  • The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the OPEC Fund for International Development, the African Development Bank, and Arab Bank on a US$114 million financing package, which also involved financing from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), for the construction of the ACWA Power Kom Ombo solar power plant, the largest private solar plant in Egypt's Aswan Province.  This transaction was named African Energy Transition Deal of the Year by IJGlobal Awards 2023
  • The refinancing for Kellas Midstream, which owns and operates key gas infrastructure in the UK Central and southern North Sea
  • EIG Pearl, owner of 49% shareholding in Aramco Oil Pipelines company, in connection with its inaugural dual tranche bond offering
  • The lenders on INEOS’s US$950 million financing and refinancing, comprising a US$750 million amendment and reinstatement of its existing borrowing base facility, and a new £155 million term loan and revolving credit facility
  • International and domestic lenders and trading companies in respect of a US$1.5 billion forward sale oil financing by NNPC in Nigeria and the subsequent debt financing
  • The export credit agencies and commercial bank lenders in the US$1.6 billion project financing for Northvolt’s development of two gigafactories for lithium ion battery cell production in Europe
  • HSBC with respect to a secured reserves based lending facility for IPR Transoil Corporation
  • The sponsors, led by Total, in connection with the US$20 billion financing by several ECAs of the development of an LNG Project in Mozambique; the transaction was named Global Multilateral Deal of the Year of 2020 by Project Finance International
  • Export credit agencies and commercial lenders in relation to the ECA-covered and uncovered conventional and Islamic financing tranches for the US$7 billion Duqm refinery project  this transaction was named Middle East & Africa 2018 Petrochemical Deal of the Year by Project Finance International
  • A syndicate of export credit agencies and commercial lenders in connection with sponsor covered loans provided as part of a refinancing of a US$20 billion project financing of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Australia
  • HSBC Bank as lead arranger of a US$1 billion structured oil receivables financing relating to the sale of oil by the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation
  • The project sponsors in connection with a crude oil reserves development project in Nigeria, the financing included debt provided by a syndicate of international banks, including Nigerian banks
  • A syndicate of lenders in respect of a US$750 million senior secured reserve-based financing for Scottish assets
  • Revolving credit facility in connection with Carlyle International Energy Partners, L.P.'s acquisition of the assets of Shell Gabon S.A.'s, a Gabon-based company engaged in exploring, producing, and refining petroleum
  • Golden Energy and Resources Limiter in connection with their issuance of 9% Senior Secured Notes due 2023
  • PT Ciputra Development in connection with their issuance of 4.85% Notes due 2021 Issued Pursuant to its US$200 million Multicurrency Medium Term Note Program
  • Exxon Mobil Corporation on the project financing in connection with the development of upstream crude oil reserves off the coast of Nigeria this transaction was named African Oil & Gas Deal of the Year by Project Finance magazine
