Taiga Takahashi focuses his practice on matters involving compliance with and challenges to federal, state and local environmental and land-use regulations, as well as development approvals and entitlements.

Mr. Takahashi represents clients in a range of business sectors, including renewable energy, conventional power, commercial products, real estate development and agriculture, in matters regarding federal, state and local environmental and land-use laws, including:

  • Administrative Procedure Act (APA) (Federal and California)
  • Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act (BGEPA)
  • California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)
  • California recycling and waste management laws, including AB 341
  • Clean Water Act (CWA) and Clean Air Act (CAA)
  • Endangered Species Act (ESA)
  • Migratory Bird Protection Act (MBTA)
  • National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
  • Native American law (ICWA, SB 18 and SB 52)
  • Other laws and regulations, such as the federal Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), drone regulations, and signage laws and regulations

Mr. Takahashi is one of the primary coordinators for the firm’s partnership with the National Veterans Legal Services Program, which recognized the firm as its 2016 Pro Bono Partner of the Year. Mr. Takahashi is also similarly actively involved in veterans’ advocacy work with the American Civil Liberties Union.

During law school, Mr. Takahashi clerked at the Environmental Enforcement Section of the US Department of Justice, Environment and Natural Resources Division, and at the California Regional Office of Earthjustice. He also served on the editorial board for the California Law Review. Prior to attending law school, he gained professional leadership, operations and project management, and government experience in the United States Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer, as well as a master’s degree in international relations with a focus in quantitative statistical analysis.

  • A major municipality in Southern California, in the successful negotiated resolution of a decades-old land-use matter
  • A major outdoor advertising company, in various land-use and regulatory matters
  • A major hazardous materials recycling company, in various land-use and regulatory matters
  • A major agricultural operation in Southern California, in a successful negotiated resolution of a regulatory matter
  • A major real estate development company, in a permitting and transactional matter regarding the transfer of development credits
