Washington, D.C. Partner Named to Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyers List

Andy Sorkin — a member of the Restructuring & Special Situations Practice in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office — has been named to Turnarounds & Workouts’ 2022 list of Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyers. The annual list recognizes a dozen restructuring lawyers in the United States under age 40 who have distinguished themselves as leaders in their field.

Turnarounds & Workouts credited Sorkin’s work on recent matters, including representing:

• Mallinckrodt – a multibillion dollar specialty pharmaceutical company – as a member of the core restructuring team leading the multidisciplinary representation, where he played a critical role in case financing negotiations and confirmation litigation strategy. Mallinckrodt’s plan, confirmed by the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, deleveraged the company’s balance sheet by approximately US$1.3 billion and resolved thousands of opioid-related lawsuits faced before their Chapter 11 proceedings.
• Nine Point Energy – an oil and gas exploration and production company operating in the Williston Basin – leading the multidisciplinary team in connection with its Chapter 11 case. Sorkin negotiated DIP financing and sale matters with the company’s secured lenders and hedging counterparties, who held approximately US$260 million in funded debt obligations and acquired substantially all of the company’s assets through a credit bid in a section 363 sale process.

Sorkin regularly represents debtors, creditors, shareholders, debtor-in-possession lenders, asset purchasers, investors, and individuals in the full spectrum of restructuring matters, including finance and M&A components.
