Latham & Watkins partners Karen Silverman in San Francisco and Cindy Starrett in Los Angeles have been named Top Women Lawyers in California for 2016 by the Daily Journal, which annually highlights the notable work of female attorneys in the state.

Silverman, the Office Managing Partner of the San Francisco office and Co-chair of the firm’s Information Technology Systems & Solutions Industry group, was cited for her work on complex transactions and competition issues in the biotechnology, entertainment and retail industries. 2016 marks the ninth consecutive year she has been acknowledged as a Top Women Lawyer, having first been honored in 2008. Silverman earned on a place on the list for her robust year securing regulatory clearances in several high-profile merger transactions, including the $5.5 billion merger of equals between client Sirona Dental System and DENTSPLY International and the $3.1 billion deal for client Globe Specialty Metals with Grupo FerroAtlantica. Both transactions resulted in companies that are the biggest in their industry: Dentsply Sirona is the world’s largest manufacturer of professional dental products and technologies, and FerroGlobe PLC is largest international silicon and specialty metals producer.

Starrett, partner and global chair of the firm’s Energy & Infrastructure Project Siting & Defense Practice, was acknowledged for “scoring some of Southern California’s biggest landmark projects over the last few years, representing a combined investment of over $1 billion,” according to the Daily Journal, which noted: “Many attorneys can point to a thick book of business as evidence of success. All Starrett needs to do is point to the Los Angeles skyline.” Starrett’s profile highlighted some notable projects such as the Hollywood Palladium Residences for Crescent Heights, the Los Angeles Football Club’s plans to build a Major League Soccer stadium in LA’s Exposition Park, as well as Westfield’s recently opened Village at Topanga.
