November 28, 2018

Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Robert Gilbert has joined the firm’s Boston office as counsel in the Litigation & Trial Department and as a member of the Insurance Counseling & Recovery Practice. He adds more than 25 years of experience as a lead trial lawyer litigating major insurance coverage claims on behalf of corporate policyholders in courts throughout the United States. In addition to his litigation and trial work, Gilbert routinely advises policyholder clients on a broad spectrum of insurance matters under multiple lines of coverage. Gilbert’s client base has included major retailers, manufacturing firms, chemical companies, and more.

Hans Brigham, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in Boston said: “Bob is a wonderful addition to our team in Boston, given his breadth of litigation experience in the insurance sector. He is well known to Latham lawyers as a strategic thinker with absolute and unyielding commitment to finding the best solutions for his clients. Bob will bring that same level of commitment and skill to Latham’s clients.”

David Barrett, Global Chair of the Insurance Counseling & Recovery Practice, added: “To say we are excited Bob is joining us would be an understatement. Bob is an elite insurance coverage lawyer — as comfortable first chairing a major coverage trial as he is providing D&O insurance advice to a corporation’s directors and officers. Plus, he is the ultimate team player, with depth of experience across many coverages, which makes him a terrific fit with our longstanding policyholder-side coverage practice.”

Gilbert joins Latham from Gilbert & Renton LLC in Boston. He received his AB from Princeton University in 1983 and his JD from Harvard Law School in 1987. Following law school, Gilbert served as a law clerk to Judge James Logan of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
