June 28, 2016

Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce that Rob Moulton will join the firm’s London office as a partner in the Financial Institutions Group. Moulton is one of the City’s leading financial regulatory practitioners with vast experience advising financial institutions and market infrastructure providers on a wide range of complex domestic and cross-border regulatory issues.

Moulton’s extensive experience and deep institutional knowledge will complement Latham’s existing top-tier financial regulatory capability. An acknowledged leader in his field, Moulton’s arrival will represent a significant milestone in the further expansion of the firm’s global Financial Institutions Group.

He has two decades of experience advising investment banks, governments, corporate finance houses, clearing houses, fund managers, insurers, stockbrokers and on-line trading businesses on a variety of legal and regulatory risk management matters, with particular expertise in the FCA's Conduct of Business Rules, European regulatory developments such as MiFID, and contested enforcement actions. He has also established a formidable reputation advising clients in relation to the European financial services reform agenda, including revisions to capital requirements, recovery and resolution plans, bank resolution and retail bank ring-fencing.

Jay Sadanandan, London Office Managing Partner, said: “We are delighted Rob will be joining us. He is a recognized team-builder whose broad experience and industry knowledge will be critical to the growth of a top-tier regulatory practice in London - a major finance center that is key to our plans to continue building the foremost integrated global financial regulatory practice. His arrival will represent a significant piece of the puzzle as we look to deepen our regulatory capability across the world’s major financial markets.”

Richard Trobman, London-based partner and member of the firm’s Executive Committee, added: “Rob’s financial regulatory expertise is highly complementary to our transactional capability in London and globally, including our equity capital markets, restructuring, structured finance, M&A and private equity, and derivatives and equity-linked products practices. Financial institutions are operating in an increasingly complex regulatory environment with overlapping layers of regulation, and Rob’s expertise and sharp legal mind will be a great asset to our clients, particularly in light of the UK’s recent vote to leave the European Union.”

“Rob’s distinguished track record and deep connections throughout the City are a testament to his technical proficiency, commercial acumen and impeccable judgement,” said Witold Balaban, Global Co-Chair of the firm’s Financial Institutions Group. “From a deep bench across the globe, our Financial Institutions Group has extensive expertise handling global financial institutions’ most complex regulatory, transactional and litigation issues in an integrated fashion. London is an important hub and Rob’s addition to the team further strengthens our capability in the City.”

Moulton will join Latham & Watkins from Ashurst in London. He graduated from the University of Nottingham with an LLB in 1994 before taking his LPC at Nottingham Trent University in 1995.
