Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Michael Rubin has joined the firm’s San Francisco office as a partner in the Litigation & Trial Department and member of the Information Law, Data Privacy & Cybersecurity practice. His practice focuses on defense of complex privacy and internet class action litigation and regulatory investigations on behalf of emerging and established companies, as well as providing strategic counsel.
For complex, global, and novel questions, disputes, or legal problems, Rubin is a go-to privacy and data protection lawyer and crisis management advisor. His substantial experience leading global crisis management of data privacy matters – and ability to partner with our existing resources in the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East – will be of tremendous value to clients around the globe.
Kirt Switzer, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in San Francisco, said: “Michael is a wonderful addition to our Litigation & Trial Department in San Francisco who will further expand Latham’s ability to handle complex privacy litigation in one of the country’s largest innovation hubs, and around the world. Clients in California and across the globe will benefit from Michael’s talent and skillful counsel.”
Steven Bauer, Global Co-chair of Latham’s White Collar Defense & Investigations Practice, added: “A hallmark of Latham’s privacy and cybersecurity work is our ability to respond rapidly anywhere in the world to a data protection crisis. Michael is a great addition to our global team led by Jennifer Archie in Washington, D.C., Gail Crawford in London, and Serrin Turner in New York.”
Rubin is the first of two prominent litigators who will join Latham’s San Francisco office this month. In June, the firm announced that Leslie Caldwell, former Assistant Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Criminal Division, would join the firm; she is expected to begin in two weeks.
“I’m excited to join Latham & Watkins and have the opportunity to expand its stellar data privacy and cybersecurity team here in the Bay Area,” said Rubin. “Recent legal developments in Europe and across the globe have dramatically increased the demand for international data protection advice. I look forward to providing my clients access to the firm’s top-tier international capabilities, business acumen, and exceptional client service.”
Rubin joins Latham from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in San Francisco. He received his undergraduate degree with distinction from the University of Virginia in 1997 and graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 2000.
