The National Law Journal (NLJ) has named Washington, D.C., partner Matthew Moore among a select group of the top intellectual property lawyers in the United States in its inaugural “Intellectual Property Trailblazers & Pioneers” list. The NLJ noted that “the list is comprised of individuals who are ‘raising the bar’ in intellectual property law in areas including copyright, patents, trademarks and licensing.” Moore, who co-chairs the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group, was particularly recognized for setting precedent in the use of Section 101 of the U.S. Patent Act to get cases dismissed via summary judgment by proving that the patents-in-suit were invalid for failing to claim patentable subject matter. The NLJ also noted that he successfully used the strategy in Intellectual Ventures LLC et al. v. Capital One, a recent bellwether case in which Intellectual Ventures, a non-practicing entity, had targeted the financial services industry.
