Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Christopher Shoff has joined the firm as a corporate partner in the Emerging Companies Practice, based in the Century City office. Shoff’s practice focuses on the representation of entrepreneurs, emerging companies, venture capital investors, private equity firms and strategic acquirers in a broad range of corporate transactions, with particular emphasis on venture capital financings and M&A.
Shoff represents high-growth companies throughout their entire lifecycle, particularly in the software, digital media, mobile, consumer and Internet sectors. He has advised companies and investors in hundreds of equity and debt financings, and he represents venture capital and private equity firms and strategic investors in connection with investments and M&A transactions.
Jeff Greenberg, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins’ offices in Los Angeles and Century City, said: “Chris is well-connected in the local start-up and VC communities, and he has earned a strong reputation for delivering practical and strategic advice to support the financing and growth critical to all players in this vibrant ecosystem.”
Patrick Pohlen, global Co-chair of the firm’s Emerging Companies Practice, said: “Chris is one of an elite group of lawyers in the Los Angeles market focused on high-growth companies, and brings extensive experience and a unique skill set to our firm. We’re excited to add Chris as a local leader for our group in Southern California. Adding him to our team further solidifies our position in the four top US venture capital markets: Northern California, Southern California, Boston and New York. Our ability to serve emerging company clients in each of these markets and other hotbeds of entrepreneurship around the world sets Latham apart.”
“Chris’ experience complements our global Entertainment, Sports & Media Practice, particularly in matters at the intersection of technology, content and other creative assets,” said Christopher Brearton, Deputy Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in Century City.
Shoff said: “I am thrilled to be joining Latham. Latham has built the pre-eminent technology practice up and down the West coast and nationally, and that is a testament to the drive and vision of the firm. Among the many reasons I decided to join Latham was the opportunity to combine my practice with the top emerging company and entertainment, sports and media teams in the US.”
Shoff received his law degree in 2002 from Harvard Law School. He currently is an adjunct professor of law at the University of Southern California, where he teaches a course on venture capital. He joins Latham from Cooley LLP.
