Latham & Watkins Promotes Six Counsel to Partner

Lawyers are experienced across corporate, finance and litigation practice areas.

Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that six lawyers have been elected to the firm’s partnership, effective March 1, 2014. Each attorney was previously a counsel at the firm, and the group follows the recent election of 20 associates to the partnership, effective January 1, 2014 (http://www.lw.com/news/latham-names-new-partners-and-counsel). 

The new partners follow, with individual profiles below: 

  • Christoph Engeler, a corporate lawyer in the firm’s Hamburg office
  • Posit Laohaphan, a capital markets lawyer in the firm’s Hong Kong office
  • Clement Naples, an intellectual property litigator in the firm’s New York office
  • Andrew Roche, a project development & finance lawyer in the firm’s Singapore office
  • Erika Weinberg, a capital markets lawyer in the firm’s New York office
  • David Zaheer, a public company lawyer in the firm’s Los Angeles office

New Partner Profiles

Christoph Engeler – Hamburg
Engeler is a member of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Practice Group within the Corporate Department who focuses on corporate and regulatory matters in the healthcare and life sciences industries. Engeler has experience advising domestic and international hospital and nursing home operators, as well as financial investors in healthcare institutions, on M&A transactions and restructurings. He also advises public authorities on privatizations of healthcare institutions and joint ventures. In the life sciences sector, Engeler advises German and foreign pharmaceuticals companies and manufacturers of medical devices on M&A transactions and on German and EU regulatory matters, including clinical trials, manufacturing, marketing authorizations, distribution, promotion and marketing, vigilance and reimbursement. 

Posit Laohaphan – Hong Kong
Laohaphan is a member of the firm’s Capital Markets Practice Group within the Corporate Department. He specializes in a range of capital markets and equity derivatives transactions, including offerings of debt, equity and equity-linked securities such as convertible and exchangeable securities; debt restructurings; margin loans; and equity derivatives products. Laohaphan has represented a range of financial institutions and large corporations in the US, Europe and Asia on a variety of capital markets and derivatives transactions. He also practices in the areas of structured finance, banking and M&A. 

Clement Naples – New York
Naples is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group within the Litigation Department. His practice focuses on patent infringement and trade secret cases covering a wide range of technologies, including telecommunications, automotive, biometrics, optics, semiconductors and wireless technologies. He has extensive experience litigating in the US International Trade Commission and in federal district courts around the country. In addition, he negotiates complex patent license agreements and regularly advises on the sale or acquisition of companies with significant patent assets. Prior to law school, Naples was an engineer focusing on writing software for, and the design and development of, deep-UV step-and-scan lithography tools. 

Andrew Roche – Singapore
Roche is a member of the firm’s Project Development & Finance Practice Group within the Finance Department. He is experienced in project finance, acquisition finance and structured and general financing transactions. He specializes in advising financiers (commercial banks, export credit agencies, multilaterals and development banks), sponsors, developers, project companies and host governments on projects in the oil and gas (including LNG), petrochemicals, power (and water and utilities), mining and infrastructure sectors. He is experienced in advising on transactions in the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East and South America. 

Erika Weinberg – New York
Weinberg is a member of the firm’s Capital Markets Practice Group within the Corporate Department. Her practice focuses primarily on corporate finance and general securities and corporate matters. Weinberg has substantial experience representing investment banks and issuers in public and private debt and equity offerings and acquisition financings in a broad range of industries, including the healthcare, entertainment, media and telecommunications, manufacturing, technology and retail sectors. She represents investment banks, companies and investors in a variety of transactions including bridge lending and loan commitments as well as other types of acquisition financings, tender offer and consent solicitations and restructurings. 

David Zaheer – Los Angeles
Zaheer is a member of the firm’s Corporate Department with a diverse practice that covers M&A, capital markets and public company representation. He routinely advises public companies on sales and acquisitions, equity and debt offerings, joint ventures, securities law compliance and reporting and related corporate governance matters. He represents clients in a wide variety of industries, including alternative energy, agricultural chemicals, healthcare, oil and gas, software, insurance, real estate, retail and staffing and outsourcing.
