Latham’s Popular Book of Jargon® Series Adds Healthcare and Life Sciences Edition

Mobile and desktop reference tool defines more than 800 industry terms.

January 5, 2017

Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce the launch of its Book of Jargon® – Healthcare & Life Sciences, a comprehensive digital and print glossary of more than 800 healthcare and life sciences terms, developed for the business and legal community as an easy-to-use reference tool to help demystify the industries’ often complex terminology, verbiage and lingo.

Covering everything from “Abbreviated Biologics License Application” to “Unsolicited Request for Off-Label Information,” Latham designed the Book of Jargon® – Healthcare & Life Sciences to be an engaging and user-friendly resource that makes the language of the health, science and medical fields more accessible and understandable to all, and in particular the business and legal executives who work in the sectors.

“We view it as our duty as thought leaders to make the insights and knowledge we’ve gained over years of advising clients through the gamut of legal matters available to the broader community,” said Alan C. Mendelson, global Co-chair of the firm’s Life Sciences Industry Group. “It was equally important for us to translate those decades of deep experience into a handy resource so that anyone who picks it up, whether they’ve spent years working with and alongside the healthcare and life sciences fields or are just starting out in related professions, can quickly begin to talk the talk and walk the walk of these very complex industries.”

Lawyers from across Latham’s healthcare and life sciences practice and industry groups, led by partners Brian Cuneo and Christopher Hazuka, Ph.D., each with deep knowledge of the sectors from their years advising healthcare and life sciences companies on everything from incorporation, initial public offerings, licensing and partnering transactions, to FDA and regulatory clearances and litigation, together compiled hundreds of frequently used terms and crafted brief, easy-to-understand definitions to help everyone from students to senior business and legal professionals navigate the intricate workings of the space more quickly and effectively.

“The healthcare and life sciences fields are two of the most complex industries in existence,” added Henning Schneider, global Co-chair of the firm’s Healthcare Services & Providers Industry Group. “Coupled with the fact that everyone has at some point engaged with or been impacted by the healthcare system, we envision this Book of Jargon® serving as an invaluable resource for the executives and lawyers who support these industries, as well as anyone seeking to understand how various healthcare laws and regulations shape their lives.”

The Book of Jargon® – Healthcare & Life Sciences is available in print, as an online web-based application/resource and as a free mobile app on iTunes for Apple devices and on Google Play for Android devices. It can also be accessed on the firm’s website under the Healthcare & Life Sciences PracticeLife Sciences Industry Group and Healthcare Services & Providers Industry Group pages.

With the launch of the Book of Jargon® – Healthcare & Life Sciences, Latham now offers 10 Books of Jargon®, providing a comprehensive A-Z library which covers European capital markets and bank finance, global M&A, global restructuring, hedge funds, Master Limited Partnerships (MLPs), oil & gas, Patent Trial & Appeal Board (PTAB), project finance and US corporate and bank finance terms and acronyms.
